PITTSBURGH \u2014 When driving around Pittsburgh, all roads seem to lead to higher gas prices today. <\/p>\n
\u201cOh my god! Sticker shock! Plain and simple,\u201d one driver told Channel 11. <\/p>\n
The national average price of gas is 92 cents higher than it was a month ago. <\/p>\n
\u201cThey\u2019re ridiculous. They\u2019re really increased over the last few weeks,\u201d another driver added.<\/p>\n
The reason for the spike, according to AAA public affairs director Jim Garrity, is partially because of the war in Iran, which caused oil prices to increase. <\/p>\n
\u201cWhen you see a splash happen overseas, the ripples make their way all the way to us,\u201d Garrity told Channel 11. <\/p>\n
It\u2019s nothing we haven\u2019t seen before. <\/p>\n
\u201cThe last time we saw an increase this drastic was the last time we saw oil prices increase drastically, which was in 2022 after the Russia-Ukraine situation. We had record high levels at the pump,\u201d Garrity added. <\/p>\n
Plus, gas stations have switched to a \u201csummer blend\u201d of gasoline, which is typically more expensive. <\/p>\n
Not to mention, spring break traveling makes the demand for gas even higher. <\/p>\n
