New Eagles cornerback Jonathan Jones\u2019 <\/a>arrival to Philadelphia was unique.<\/p>\n

Most of the team\u2019s free agent signings fly into Philadelphia riding in the passenger seat of a plane.<\/p>\n

Jones is no ordinary player. On Wednesday, he piloted himself from Charlotte to Philly to sign his Eagles contract. Yep, you read that right\u2014he\u2019s a licensed pilot who flies for fun off the field.<\/p>\n

\u201cI found a little passion for aviation a few years back…,\u201d Jones told reporters on Wednesday. \u201cIt\u2019s a little hobby of mine that I enjoy doing. I am always looking for new hobbies. I grew up as a country boy. So always outside (riding) bikes, 4-wheelers. That was kind of my niche.\u201d<\/p>\n

After taking a discovery flight, Jones fell in love with piloting. He flew his Daher TBM plane to Philadelphia International Airport. As he got close to landing, Jones said he enjoyed the ground view of the Delaware River.<\/p>\n

Jones is a pilot off the field, but he won\u2019t be steering the Eagles\u2019 secondary next season. He will likely serve as Philadelphia\u2019s No. 4 or No. 5 cornerback. The Eagles signed him to a one-year deal, which means his roster spot is not guaranteed.<\/p>\n

Jones played the 2025 season for the Commanders, recording 41 tackles and five passes defended in seven starts. He has started 78 games in his 10-year career, spending nine of those years with the Patriots and one year with the Commanders.<\/p>\n
