PERKINS TWP., Ohio (WTVG) – Authorities in Erie County charged a teenager who police say flashed a BB gun at a protester before he was involved in a car crash.<\/p>\n
A 16-year-old boy from Canton was \u201ctaunting and threatening\u201d a protester in Sandusky by flashing a BB gun at her on Saturday afternoon, according to a police report from the Perkins Township Police Department. It happened as \u2018No Kings\u2019 protests were playing out across the country, including one along Milan Road near the Sandusky Mall.<\/p>\n
The 37-year-old protester later told investigators she was following the teen during the protest \u201cand stated he was being annoying,\u201d the police report read.<\/p>\n
\u201cShe continued and stated she told him he should be ashamed of himself to which he turned around towards her and lifted his t-shirt revealing the BB gun in his waistband,\u201d the police report said.<\/p>\n
Police said they first learned of the incident after the 16-year-old and a 17-year-old were involved in a car crash on Milan Road in Sandusky, near the Five Guys restaurant. Perkins Township PD said a 17-year-old driver was at fault over distracted driving.<\/p>\n
When officers were investigating the crash, they received a tip that one of the boys involved had flashed a gun at a protester. As officers were patting down the boys, the 16-year-old said he had it on his waistband. It was determined to be a BB gun.<\/p>\n
The teen\u2019s guardian was called to pick him up. Police reports said he was charged with disorderly conduct and a court date will be scheduled by Erie County Juvenile Court.<\/p>\n
13 Action News does not name minors accused of crimes unless the courts certify them as adults.<\/p>\n
