Waldameer Park is pushing ahead with major upgrades to its waterpark, including a brand-new slide, even as Erie\u2019s unpredictable weather continues to slow construction.<\/p>\n
Crews say the early spring conditions made it difficult to stay on schedule, but they\u2019re making a strong push as opening day gets closer.<\/p>\n
\u201cConstruction for our new water tower, I\u2019m not gonna say delayed, but we struggled to get work done. But with the weather breaking, it seems we\u2019re trying to make as much progress as we can before opening.\u201d Says Brian Gorman<\/p>\n
The biggest upgrade this year is the Presque Isle Plunge \u2014 a new multi\u2011slide attraction built for up to a five\u2011person raft. It features a steep drop designed for families and thrill seekers looking for a new challenge at the park.<\/p>\n
\u201cRight behind me is where Waldameer\u2019s newest slide is taking shape \u2014 and crews say this will be one of the most significant additions to the waterpark in years, giving families a bigger, better ride experience.\u201d Stephanie Logue reports.<\/p>\n
For guests who prefer to relax, the Endless River is also getting a major redesign. Soon to be renamed Winding Rivers, the updated attraction will stretch more than 500 feet long, giving visitors more room to float and unwind during the hottest days of summer.<\/p>\n
Waldameer is also bringing back a longtime favorite. After being closed for a year, the Paratrooper ride is returning with a fresh new look.<\/p>\n
Meanwhile, the park is preparing for its annual Hiring Week at Rainbow Gardens. Waldameer hires between 650 and 700 employees each season. With about half returning, they are looking to bring on roughly 300 to 350 new workers this year.<\/p>\n
