{"id":14346,"date":"2025-10-25T01:46:14","date_gmt":"2025-10-25T01:46:14","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-pa\/14346\/"},"modified":"2025-10-25T01:46:14","modified_gmt":"2025-10-25T01:46:14","slug":"previewing-the-lackawanna-commissioner-debate","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-pa\/14346\/","title":{"rendered":"Previewing the Lackawanna Commissioner Debate"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-pa\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/10\/1761356774_987_image\" style=\"display:none\" alt=\"https:\/\/img.particlenews.com\/image.php?url=24l07P_15wGD4S600\" width=\"1920\" height=\"1080\"\/><\/p>\n<p>SCRANTON, LACKAWANNA COUNTY (WBRE\/WYOU)\u2014 Residents in Lackawanna County will get their first chance to listen to candidates debate about why they should be the next Lackawanna County commissioner.<\/p>\n<p>The public debate is taking place tonight at the University of Scranton.<\/p>\n<p>28\/22 News reporter Connor Coar will be a panelist at the debate.<\/p>\n<p>Wednesday morning, Brenda Sacco was sworn in as the interim county commissioner. She will be in the position for only 12 days.<\/p>\n<p>While Sacco keeps the seat warm, Cappelini, Merli, and Welby have been campaigning since the beginning of September.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.2822news.com\/news\/school-takes-out-loan-due-to-state-budget-impasse\/?ipid=promo-link-block1\" class=\"promo-link__link\" target=\"&quot;_blank&quot;\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\"> School takes out loan due to state budget impasse <\/a><\/p>\n<p>At the end of August, a vote was taken to move to a special election. At that point, 66 calendar days away from the general election.<\/p>\n<p>Multiple residents of Lackawanna County who spoke with 28\/22 News admitted they don\u2019t know much about the candidates.<\/p>\n<p>One resident 28\/22 News spoke with said he wants the next commissioner to help the people of Lackawanna County while the state budget impasse and government shutdown are affecting those close to him.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s bad. I mean, they worked hard for this. Some of these people can\u2019t afford to go to the store and buy everything that is going high. It\u2019s impacting a lot of people around here.
