Junior first responders: Lackawanna County 4\u2011H Junior First Responder Open House, April 21, 5:30 p.m., Carbondale Fire Company, 1 N. Main Ave. This community event is free and open to the public; families are encouraged to attend. The Junior First Responder program gives young people the opportunity to explore careers in emergency services, including firefighting, EMS, emergency management and public safety. The open house will include demonstrations, hands\u2011on activities and opportunities to meet local first responders. Youth ages 5-18 are invited, along with parents and guardians. String art workshop: Johnson College\u2019s WAVE (Workforce Advancement & Value-Added Education) department hands-on string art workshop, April 1, 5:30-7:30 p.m., Moffat Student Center on the Scranton campus. Participants will design and craft their own 8-by-8-inch string art projects under step-by-step guidance, creating eye-catching patterns and personalized d\u00e9cor. The workshop welcomes beginners and experienced crafters alike, offering a fun, supportive environment where attendees leave with a finished piece ready to display or gift. The workshop is $40\/person and open to ages 12 and up. Participants should bring a hammer and a dish towel or hand towel to protect the work surface while hammering nails. Art exhibit: Northeast Pennsylvania artist Darlene Keen\u2019s paintings, \u201cLocal Landscapes from a Keen Explorer,\u201d featuring lakes and rivers, state and regional parks, nature preserves and forest trails. Paintings are available for immediate purchase at Grateful Roast Coffee and Espresso Bar in Clarks Summit during open hours from April 2-May 31. Inventory will be continually refreshed throughout the exhibit\u2019s duration.<\/p>\n
