WEST READING, Pa. – It starts with the sound. As instruments warm up, you can feel it, Jazz Fest is back.<\/p>\n
At the West Reading Motor Club, Friday night\u2019s show featured the Sadik Akdogan Quartet.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe’re going to do some jazz standards\u2026 we’ve got a sax player, bass player, guitarist\u2026 and I play drums,\u201d said drummer Sadik Akdogan.<\/p>\n
For him, this stage is personal. He’s a Berks County native who grew up attending Jazz Fest as a kid.<\/p>\n
\u201cMy dad would take me to Jazz Fest gigs\u2026 and I always wanted to do what the drummer did,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
Now, he\u2019s the one on stage. And it\u2019s not just happening here.<\/p>\n
Over in Wyomissing, inside Sly Fox, another crowd is getting ready for a night of live music.<\/p>\n
\u201cOh absolutely\u2026 we’ve sold over 120 seats so far\u2026 and we usually leave some open for walk-ins,\u201d said Danielle Altavilla, general manager.<\/p>\n
In a sign of just how big this festival has become, the event brings in visitors and boosts local businesses.<\/p>\n
\u201cFriday, Saturday nights are our biggest nights\u2026 and we always have a good crowd drawn by the shows,\u201d said Anthony Calbaresi, general manager of the West Reading Motor Club.<\/p>\n
It’s a high note for local businesses, and a chance for people to experience jazz up close.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe’re going to be doing a jazz brunch on Sunday. David Cullen’s going to be here\u2026 and then we also have another show tomorrow night, as well as next Friday and Saturday,\u201d Calbaresi added.<\/p>\n
