{"id":144767,"date":"2026-03-21T16:46:09","date_gmt":"2026-03-21T16:46:09","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-pa\/144767\/"},"modified":"2026-03-21T16:46:09","modified_gmt":"2026-03-21T16:46:09","slug":"thousands-race-around-sports-complex-for-phillies-charities-5k-ahead-of-opening-day","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-pa\/144767\/","title":{"rendered":"Thousands race around sports complex for Phillies Charities 5K ahead of Opening Day"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Just days before the Philadelphia Phillies will (hopefully) be running the bases for <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cbsnews.com\/philadelphia\/news\/andrew-painter-makes-philadelphia-phillies-roster-cristopher-sanchez-to-start-opening-day\/\" target=\"_blank\" data-invalid-url-rewritten-http=\"\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">Opening Day 2026<\/a>, thousands of people took part in a 5K race for a good cause outside Citizens Bank Park in South Philadelphia.<\/p>\n<p>The Phillies said 7,000 people were registered for the sold-out Phillies Charities 5K with Fox Chase Cancer Center on Saturday. The race took runners around the ballpark and Xfinity Mobile Arena and through the Navy Yard, all for a good cause: providing grants to local organizations.<\/p>\n<p>This was the race&#8217;s 16th year running. One runner, Jenn Kaliser of Bucks County, came with the American Cancer Society&#8217;s Team Determination.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>She is battling cancer and recently underwent surgery.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;There&#8217;s so much energy for a race,&#8221; Kaliser said. &#8220;I&#8217;ve been walking a lot post my surgery and during chemotherapy. &#8230; The excitement of everyone getting ready to run or walk, it feels good.
