Thrifting\u2019s been all the rage for literally ages. There\u2019s also been a bit of a thrifting renaissance thanks to the advent of TikTok popularizing thrift hauls. But when\u2019s the last time you heard about an auction?<\/p>\n
Well, it turns out there\u2019s a whole, wide world out there for the auction-attending community. From Goodwill allegedly auctioning off<\/a> its items to horror stories involving auctioned mystery meat<\/a>, there is truly a lot going on, auction-wise.<\/p>\n Now, one auction-going woman is going viral for apparently striking gold\u2014or rather, designer.<\/p>\n \u2018I am literally shaking\u2019 <\/p>\n In a video first posted on Feb. 17 that has since gotten over 600,000 views, professional thrifter Jessie (@jessiefindsstuff on TikTok<\/a>) shared her wildly fruitful finds at a seemingly ordinary auction.<\/p>\n \u201cI am literally shaking,\u201d Jessie starts in her video. \u201cI\u2019m at an auction. Rural Pennsylvania. Nobody here really knows or cares about the stuff that is here sometimes.\u201d<\/p>\n But Jessie does.<\/p>\n She goes on to say she saw a couple of tables covered in \u201cHermes boxes, Cartier boxes, and the boxes were real\u201d with receipts \u201cstill inside.\u201d Collectors did end up purchasing the boxes themselves \u201cfor a lot of money,\u201d but they apparently assumed the purses and shoes inside them \u201cweren\u2019t real.\u201d<\/p>\n \u201cThey were,\u201d Jessie reveals, showing her haul to the camera. \u201c\u2026 I am in shock. I bought this box of shoes. See, this box still has the Neiman Marcus tag. $550, two pairs of Chanel flats. Real. They\u2019re real.\u201d<\/p>\n Jessie also found Ferragamo and Stuart Weitzman boots, as well as Prada, Coach, and Fendi bags. Moreover, all the items were precisely her size. While this may seem too good to be true, Jessie says this sort of thing \u201chappens all the time.\u201d<\/p>\n \u201cPeople get rid of their aunt or grandma\u2019s stuff and they don\u2019t realize,\u201d Jessie says. \u201cThey\u2019re dirty, but look at these Ferragamo rain boots. They were just sitting outside on the ground \u2026 I got three totes of clothes and purses. Do you wanna know what I paid? I paid for all the purses, $3. For all the totes of clothes, Jessie closes out her video singing the auction\u2019s praises, saying she \u201ccannot wait to get home and unpack everything.\u201d<\/p>\n \u201cSome people do drugs and some people just thrift,\u201d Jessie finishes. \u201cAnd it\u2019s heaven.\u201d<\/p>\n Jessie\u2019s comments section was, understandably, filled with shocked viewers. Some commenters chimed in with their own top-tier thrifting\/auction experiences, while many simply expressed envious outrage at Jessie\u2019s incredible luck.<\/p>\n \u201cFor my mental health, this is fake,\u201d one viewer commented with a crying emoji.<\/p>\n \u201cHow does it feel to be a chosen child of the thrift gods?\u201d demanded another.<\/p>\n One fellow thrifter noted that Jessie\u2019s \u201cpart of the country\u201d (Pennsylvania and surrounding areas) is a \u201cwild\u201d and perfect place to find such gems.<\/p>\n \u201cI scored new Stuart Weitzman 5050 boots, Jimmy Choo heels, vintage carhartt stuff and all sorts of other items at the GW outlets for like $2 a piece,\u201d the thrifter commented. \u201cLike whaaaat?! I live in AR, we don\u2019t see this stuff here.\u201d<\/p>\n \u201cYesterday at an estate sale, I found a first edition vintage 1983 Martha Stewart coffee table book,\u201d shared another thrifter. \u201cIt was autographed and everything! I found the same one on eBay for 2500! No matter what you\u2019re looking at, always do an internet search to verify that an item is actually authentic (for example, not a knockoff Chanel bag) and worth some real cash. This can prevent you from overspending and\/or overbidding.<\/p>\n Also, if you\u2019re going the auction route, some auction companies actually allow you to attend what\u2019s called a \u201cpre-auction.\u201d Home auctioning company Smith & Co states on its website<\/a> that \u201cauction previews give you an opportunity to take a close [look] at the items ahead of the auction.\u201d<\/p>\n \u201cSince items purchased at auctions are rarely covered by any warranty, it\u2019s your job to make sure the purchase is worth your while,\u201d Smith & Co advises. \u201cDuring a preview you can closely inspect the items, so make sure you test as many features as possible.
