Police\u00a0Address Neighborhood Blight with Citywide Abandoned Vehicle Blitz\u00a0<\/p>\n
Pittsburgh, PA \u2013 In an effort to\u00a0address community\u00a0concerns, free up limited parking, and beautify the city,\u00a0the\u00a0City of Pittsburgh, in coordination with the Pittsburgh Bureau of Police, is launching an abandoned vehicle blitz.\u00a0<\/p>\n
Over the next two weeks, Pittsburgh Police and three designated salvors (not McGann & Chester) will begin removing abandoned vehicles in neighborhoods throughout the city that have been reported by neighbors through 311 or the Police. \u00a0<\/p>\n
\u201cAbandoned vehicles are a nuisance\u00a0that cause blight and safety concerns\u00a0in our neighborhoods,\u201d said Mayor Corey O\u2019Connor. \u201cThere have been some that have been\u00a0abandoned\u00a0in our communities for years. Thank\u00a0you to the Pittsburgh Police for addressing these and removing them from our streets.\u201d\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n
For the purposes of the blitz, officers will be prioritizing vehicles for removal where the registration\u00a0and\u00a0inspection have expired more than 90 days and those that are considered a hazard on the street.\u00a0<\/p>\n
Under the Pennsylvania Vehicle Code, vehicles are presumed to be abandoned under the following circumstances:\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n
\nThe vehicle is physically inoperable and left unattended on a highway or other public property for more than 48 hours.\u00a0
<\/p>\n
\nThe vehicle has\u00a0remained\u00a0illegally\u00a0on a highway or other public property for a period of more than 48 hours.\u00a0
<\/p>\n
\nThe vehicle is left unattended on or along a highway or other public property for a period of more than 48 hours and does not bear\u00a0any\u00a0of the following:\u00a0
<\/p>\n

\n
\nA valid registration plate.\u00a0
\nA certificate of inspection.\u00a0
\nAn ascertainable VIN number.\u00a0
\n

\nThe vehicle has\u00a0remained\u00a0on private property\u00a0without\u00a0the consent of the owner or person in control of the property for more than 24 hours.\u00a0
<\/p>\n
The majority of the vehicles that are listed to be towed have been abandoned for weeks, months or even years.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n
Residents who own a vehicle that\u00a0falls into any of these categories\u00a0are\u00a0advised to\u00a0move\u00a0it onto\u00a0their private property or to a secure location before 8 am on Tuesday, March 24 or it will be towed.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n
