LIMIT THE IMPACT TO YOUR ELECTRIC BILLS ALSO PASSED IN THE STATE HOUSE TODAY. THE BILL REQUIRES DATA CENTERS TO PAY FOR ADDITIONAL ELECTRICITY INFRASTRUCTURE COSTS THEMSELVES AND USE AN INCREASING AMOUNT OF LOCAL CARBON FREE ENERGY SOURCES. The bill requires data centers to pay for additional electricity infrastructure costs themselves and use an increasing amount of local carbon-free energy sources. “This bill will incentivize data centers to bring their own energy. If they do that, that’s great. They bring their own generation, there’s no problem. It will put parameters relative to how how much wattage they use will be specific to what they pay, and it won’t affect regular ratepayers,” said Representative Robert Matzie of Beaver County. The bill passed with democratic support in a nearly party-line vote.
