L. SAUCON TWP., Pa. – People were asked to shelter in place, as police in tactical gear responded to a barricade situation in part of Lower Saucon Township, Northampton County Wednesday.<\/p>\n

According to 911 dispatchers, officers were called around 10:33 a.m. to the 2400 block of Applebutter Road for a welfare check involving a man reportedly experiencing a mental health crisis. According to emergency call logs, the dispatcher said the \u201cmale is brandishing a firearm.\u201d<\/p>\n

Police closed Applebutter Road at both Ringhoffer Road and Sherryhill Road\u2014closures still in place as of 2:52 p.m.\u2014as the situation evolved into what authorities described as a barricade incident. A detour was established for drivers, police said.<\/p>\n

Pennsylvania State Police Trooper Nathan Branosky tells 69 News that the encounter was an officer\u2011involved shooting. The man was taken to a hospital with injuries. No other individuals were hurt.<\/p>\n

Northampton County Emergency Management Services issued a Facebook alert advising anyone within a half\u2011mile radius to shelter in place, stay away from doors and windows, and await further instructions.<\/p>\n

Branosky says there is no longer a threat to the public.<\/p>\n
