{"id":14919,"date":"2025-10-25T18:49:12","date_gmt":"2025-10-25T18:49:12","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-pa\/14919\/"},"modified":"2025-10-25T18:49:12","modified_gmt":"2025-10-25T18:49:12","slug":"halloween-decorated-houses-in-the-spotlight-on-creepin-for-critters-tour-to-benefit-animal-rescue-league-2","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-pa\/14919\/","title":{"rendered":"Halloween decorated houses in the spotlight on Creepin&#8217; for Critters tour to benefit Animal Rescue League"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Ghouls, goblins, roaring dragons, giant spiders, skeletons and zombies are just some of the visually haunting treats to take in at the Exeter Township home of Daron and David O\u2019Donald II.<\/p>\n<p>Their home along Hartman Road is one of a dozen on the Creepin\u2019 for Critters Halloween house tour they organized to benefit the <a href=\"https:\/\/berksarl.org\/event\/creepin-for-critters\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">Animal Rescue League of Berks County<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe were decorating more and more and last year and we got people who wanted to donate money toward the display,\u201d David said. \u201cWe have people that would stop literally every day on their way home, come with their kids.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The O\u2019Donalds said they would rather give money to a charity.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe have a rescue dog from the Animal Rescue League for 12 years now and she loves little kids and just loves people in general,\u201d David said. \u201cIt seems kind of fitting.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIn fact, she loves Halloween because she knows kids come to the house,\u201d Daron said, noting they get so many kids coming now that they sit outside with pit bull mix Willow as greeter and their son, David III, 6, as official tour guide.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI was never into Halloween until I had little kids,\u201d Daron said.<\/p>\n<p>It definitely was their son David\u2019s love of the holiday that pushed them into overdrive when it came to Halloween decorating, they said.<\/p>\n<p>Even their youngest daughter, Marietta, 3, loves the holiday.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cMarietta has a 3-foot-tall skeleton that is like a year-round thing,\u201d David said. \u201cShe carries it around and makes us put pajamas on it.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>When asked the favorite part of the yard display, Daron said it is a trio of dragons that breathe fog on Halloween night.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhy I like them in particular is last year, when our daughter Marietta was 2, they roared and she roared back at them,\u201d Daron said.<\/p>\n<p>David\u2019s favorite is the spider display featuring giant arachnids.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" alt=\"Zombies romp at David and Daron O\u2019Donald\u2019s home in the...\" class=\"size-article_inline\"  \/><\/p>\n<p>Zombies romp at David and Daron O\u2019Donald\u2019s home in the 1000 block of Hartman Road in Exeter Township that are part of the Creepin\u2019 For Critters tour to benefit the Animal Rescue League. (BILL UHRICH\/READING EAGLE)\n<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"#\" class=\"icon-enlarge mng-gallery-fullscreen-expand\" aria-label=\"Expand fullscreen slideshow\">Expand<\/a><\/p>\n<p>David and Daron take off Halloween day to prepare for their visitors, even though decorating started weeks before.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe started Labor Day weekend this year,\u201d David said. \u201cWe were the majority set up by October 1.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>There are a few things, such as the fog machines and some animatronics, that can\u2019t be outside for long periods of time.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOne thing we get asked a lot is, \u2018When do you take it down?\u2019\u201d David said. \u201cWe\u2019re targeting this year to have everything taken down the Monday after Halloween.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>They have gained a sense of community getting to know the people in their own neighborhood, those who stop by several times a week and people who live nowhere near them but joined their social media group.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAll us decorators love to help out one another, if it\u2019s finding more decorations or sharing amazing tips and tricks,\u201d said Jessica Reyes, who has been going all out decorating her Stoudts Ferry Bridge Road home in Muhlenberg Township since she moved there in 2018.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cMy husband and I both love Halloween and decorating the yard,\u201d said Cindy Shingle, whose Mountain Boulevard home in Wernersville is on the tour. \u201cIt\u2019s such a fun holiday that makes people happy. We are also huge animal lovers and supporters of the ARL, so when we saw Creepin\u2019 for Critters needed Halloween houses for their fundraiser, we jumped onboard to help.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s a great way to bring the community together,\u201d Daron said.<\/p>\n<p>Creepin\u2019 for Critters<\/p>\n<p>Mobile phone users can download an iOS or Android version of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.frightmaps.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">Fright Maps<\/a>, which shows the locations of the 12 homes on the Creepin\u2019 for Critters tour.<\/p>\n<p>There also is a group <a href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/CreepinForCritters\/?checkpoint_src=any\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">page on Facebook<\/a> for the tour.<\/p>\n<p>Each participating house has a QR coded sign that visitors can scan to make a donation directly to the ARL.
