{"id":150048,"date":"2026-03-27T14:00:10","date_gmt":"2026-03-27T14:00:10","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-pa\/150048\/"},"modified":"2026-03-27T14:00:10","modified_gmt":"2026-03-27T14:00:10","slug":"newly-sworn-in-legislator-resigns-from-allentown-school-board","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-pa\/150048\/","title":{"rendered":"Newly sworn-in legislator resigns from Allentown School Board"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Ana Tiburcio, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.mcall.com\/2026\/03\/24\/ana-tiburcio-sworn-in-as-state-representative-serving-allentown-salisbury-township\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">sworn in to represent the 22nd district in Pennsylvania\u2019s state House on Monday<\/a>, has resigned from her position as an Allentown School Board member.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cServing the people of Allentown as a school board member was one of the greatest honors of my life,\u201d Tiburcio said in an email. \u201cI hope that the board appoints someone who can bring a combination of community connections and educational expertise to continue the good work of the Board.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Tiburcio\u2019s resignation was accepted by the board Thursday. The board intends to fill the vacancy at a special meeting April 23. The appointee will serve until the reorganization meeting in December 2027 but can run for a full term in the November 2027 election.<\/p>\n<p>The Public School Code limits eligibility to \u201cany citizen of this commonwealth, having a good moral character, being at least eighteen (18) years of age, and having been a resident of the district for at least one (1) year, prior to the date of his election or appointment.\u201d There are further limitations relating to those who hold other government offices or positions in the School District.<\/p>\n<p>Eligible individuals interested in being considered for this vacant position should complete <a href=\"https:\/\/resources.finalsite.net\/images\/v1721927616\/allentownsdorg\/at9hkvvdwipqulkqbqna\/004-BOG-2-BoardOfSchlDirAppForm.pdf\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">an application<\/a> and submit a letter of intent via email to Ron Simonson at SimonsonR@allentownsd.org.<\/p>\n<p>Applications can also be mailed to the Allentown School District Board of School Directors, C\/O Secretary to the Board at the following address: 31 S. Penn Street, P.O. Box 328, Allentown, PA 18105-0328.<\/p>\n<p>Applications are due no later than 4 p.m. April 16.<\/p>\n<p>All eligible candidates will be interviewed at the special board meeting on April 23, starting at 4 p.m. in the board room at the 31 S.
