Fliers were posted around the E.W. Fairchild-Martindale Library but were later removed by fellow students. In 2024, Lehigh announced a policy<\/a> stating that posting on campus is reserved to Lehigh community \u2014 including students, faculty and staff, university departments and organizations \u2014 in \u201cdesignated posting areas.\u201d<\/p>\n

Prioleau, along with eight other students, received an email from Ashley Lemmons, the assistant vice president and dean for student life and leadership, stating that it\u2019d come to the university\u2019s attention that several posts and stories were circulating on social media regarding the individual involved in the February BORG incident.\u00a0<\/p>\n

\u201cWe are writing to direct you to immediately remove any posts, comments, or shared content related to this matter,\u201d the email said. \u201cWhile we understand that emotions can run high within our community, it is imperative that you understand the serious implications of these actions.\u201d<\/p>\n

Around 1:30 a.m. on Sunday, Kaitlan Prioleau, \u201827, parked her car in the Buchanan Street lot and began walking back to her off-campus house when she noticed a BORG placed outside a recycling bin that depicted blackface.<\/p>\n

She said she examined the container and found no additional writing, only the image.<\/p>\n

Before disposing of it, she took a photo, filed a Title IX report and posted about the incident on her personal social media account, including Instagram and Yik Yak, where she said she was banned twice after her post was reported.\u00a0<\/p>\n

\u201cThere were two white dots for eyes, small ears, three strokes to represent hair and lips that are just huge and white,\u201d she said. \u201cIf you search any caricature from Jim Crow or a minstrel show, that is the image that Black people were drawn (as).\u201d<\/p>\n

She said the incident is especially unsettling following a late-February BORG incident<\/a> that led to the suspension of all Greek life social events. She also said she believes the two incidents may be connected.<\/p>\n

\u201cPresident Helble needs to acknowledge it and publicly broadcast to his campus, condemning this action, condemning racism, existing anywhere on campus, no matter the institution or club or organization, that there should never be a place for racism,\u201d Prioleau said. \u201cMy issue with this administration is that you can\u2019t preach diversity and inclusion when I\u2019m finding blackface down the street from my house. There must be more done than simply town hall meetings and discussions.\u201d<\/p>\n

She said the administration needs to investigate the incident and hold those responsible accountable, adding that Black students are being negatively affected. She also encouraged students to speak up about incidents like this, noting that it impacts the broader campus community.\u00a0<\/p>\n
