A Camden man was arrested and accused of beating a woman to death with a baseball bat on Wednesday night, according to Camden County Prosecutor Grace C. MacAulay and Camden County Police Chief Gabriel Rodriguez.<\/p>\n
Officials said Enoch Rembert, 28, was charged with first-degree murder in the death of 51-year-old Lisa Mellet of Camden. <\/p>\n
According to officials, on Wednesday, March 25, at approximately 11:29 p.m., first responders were dispatched to the area of 5th Street and Erie Street in Camden, New Jersey, in reference to a woman who was found unconscious in the roadway.<\/p>\n
The woman, who was later identified as Mellet, was taken to Cooper University Hospital, where she died about an hour later, officials said.<\/p>\n
Later on Thursday, March 26, the Gloucester-Camden-Salem County Medical Examiner determined Mellet died of blunt abdominal trauma and ruled her death as a homicide.<\/p>\n
During the investigation, detectives found surveillance video footage that showed Rembert walking to the area of 5th Street and Erie Street and repeatedly striking Mellet with a baseball bat. Officials said after the assault, Mellet walked to the area of 5th Street and Bailey Street, where she collapsed.<\/p>\n
According to the prosecutor’s office, detectives also learned Mellet and Rembert were “previously acquainted from the neighborhood.”<\/p>\n
Rembert was arrested in Camden and taken to the Camden County Correctional Facility.<\/p>\n
