A U.S. Secret Service agent assigned to former first lady Jill Biden mistakenly shot himself in the leg at a Philadelphia airport, KYW Newsradio<\/a> reported, citing sources.<\/p>\n

An agent was injured “following a negligent discharge while handling a service weapon,” Secret Service spokesman Nate Herring told Fox News Digital in a statement provided in response to a request for comment \u2014 the statement discussing the incident did not name Jill Biden, the wife of former President Joe Biden<\/a>.<\/p>\n

“On Friday morning just after 8:30, an on-duty U.S. Secret Service Special Agent suffered a non-life-threatening injury following a negligent discharge while handling a service weapon at the Philadelphia<\/a> International Airport during a protective assignment,” Herring noted.<\/p>\n

The protectee was not present when the episode occurred, the statement explained.<\/p>\n

“There was no impact to the protectee’s movement and they were not present at the time of the incident,” Herring noted.<\/p>\n

“There were no reported injuries to any other individuals and the special agent is being evaluated at an area hospital in stable condition,” Herring added.<\/p>\n

“The Secret Service\u2019s<\/a> Office of Professional Responsibility will be reviewing the facts and circumstances of this incident. We are grateful for our law enforcement and public safety partners who provided medical assistance,” the statement concluded.<\/p>\n
