The Pittsburgh Penguins<\/a> made a recall Saturday afternoon, and the implications were telling. The team recalled rookie winger Rutger McGroarty<\/a>, 21, from the Wilkes-Barre\/Scranton Penguins. <\/p>\n

In 20 NHL games this season, McGroarty has five points, including two goals. McGroarty turns 22 Sunday.<\/p>\n

However, the bad news as the Penguins will face the Dallas Stars Saturday afternoon at PPG Paints Arena without Sidney Crosby or Evgeni Malkin<\/a>.<\/p>\n

UPDATE: Per Penguins coach Dan Muse, Crosby will be out day-to-day with the lower-body injury he suffered in the first period against the Ottawa Senators Thursday. <\/p>\n

Muse also said Malkin would remain out day-to-day with his upper-body injury, widely suspected to be a hand injury. Malkin has missed the last two games with an upper-body injury.<\/p>\n

Despite struggles, rookie Ville Koivunen<\/a> has also retained a spot in the lineup. The WBS Penguins have already clinched a playoff spot in the AHL\u2019s Atlantic Division. <\/p>\n

Saturday, the team also returned forwards Avery Hayes and Joona Koppanen to the WBS Penguins. The pair were recalled on Thursday, but forward Anthony Mantha was able to play despite missing practice on Wednesday. Neither Hayes nor Koppanen played against Ottawa.<\/p>\n

When he speaks to the media at 3 p.m., coach Dan Muse will update the injury status of Crosby and Malkin. PHN will update the story then.<\/p>\n
