Peoples Natural Gas is petitioning the Pennsylvania Public Utility Commission to allow a proposed rate increase.<\/p>\n
The People\u2019s request would increase its operating revenues by approximately $163 million per year.<\/p>\n
Under the request Peoples Natural Gas Division residential customers would see an average increase of about $16 a month. Peoples plans to use the money to support safety initiatives like replacing aging pipelines. The PUC will now investigate this request and likely hold hearings so the soonest the increase could take effect is December.<\/p>\n
Peoples Gas provides service to more than 700,000 residents and businesses in Pittsburgh and surrounding counties in southwestern Pennsylvania.
