EASTON, Pa. – Sunday was Vietnam Veterans Memorial Day, and one student club in Easton made sure the veterans in their community were remembered for their service.

Standing in front of a memorial to all the Vietnam veterans who attended Easton Area High, junior Anthony Ventura explained why it was so important for him to honor their service.

“50 years after Vietnam, we still have not learned how to give our troops, and our men and women who offer all that they have, and all that they may be, simply because their country asked them to, the respect and celebration that they deserve,” said Ventura.

Ventura helped found the Red Poppies for Veterans club three years ago. It’s grown from 5 to 25 members over that time, with the sole purpose of honoring veterans like Edward Brace, who shared what it was like for him to serve.

“That was the reality of Vietnam. You learned fast, and you carried the weight of responsibility, whether you were ready or not,” said Brace. “I want to thank the Red Poppies for Veterans club for remembering us and honoring our service.”

State Rep. Robert Freeman and U.S. Rep. Ryan Mackenzie came to show their support for the work Ventura and the Red Poppies Club are doing to honor veterans like Brace.

“I have a certificate of recognition from the Pennsylvania House of Representatives, that I’d like to present to Anthony,” said Freeman.

“I have a certificate as well from the U.S. House of Representatives that I will be presenting to Anthony,” said Mackenzie.

But in the end, Ventura asked for the praise to go to all the Vietnam veterans in the audience, and the 8 names on the wall behind him of men who never came home.

“For our Vietnam veterans especially, because many of you did not hear this soon enough, welcome home,” said Ventura.

EASTON, Pa. – Sunday was Vietnam Veterans Memorial Day, and one student club in Easton made sure the…

[14
214,153,155,154,6290
post-152015","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","category-bethlehem","tag-_homepage_top_stories","tag-bethlehem","tag-bethlehem-headlines","tag-bethlehem-news","tag-easton-area
["GET
