{"id":152830,"date":"2026-03-31T01:06:13","date_gmt":"2026-03-31T01:06:13","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-pa\/152830\/"},"modified":"2026-03-31T01:06:13","modified_gmt":"2026-03-31T01:06:13","slug":"person-dead-after-high-rise-apartment-fire-in-wilkinsburg","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-pa\/152830\/","title":{"rendered":"Person dead after high-rise apartment fire in Wilkinsburg"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"default__StyledText-sc-tl066j-0 gJuxXh body-paragraph\">WILKINSBURG, Pa. \u2014 A person is dead following a fire at a high-rise apartment building in Wilkinsburg. <\/p>\n<p class=\"default__StyledText-sc-tl066j-0 gJuxXh body-paragraph\">Fire crews were called to the Douglas Plaza Apartments in the 2400 block of Laketon Road around noon on Monday. <\/p>\n<p class=\"default__StyledText-sc-tl066j-0 gJuxXh body-paragraph\">A spokesperson for Allegheny County Emergency Services confirmed the fire was fatal. <\/p>\n<p class=\"default__StyledText-sc-tl066j-0 gJuxXh body-paragraph\">A three-alarm response was called to the scene, per bureau protocol for fires at high-rises, officials said.<\/p>\n<p class=\"default__StyledText-sc-tl066j-0 gJuxXh body-paragraph\">Pittsburgh firefighters were called to assist. A public information officer with Pittsburgh Public Safety said the fire was contained to one unit in the building.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" data-chromatic=\"ignore\" alt=\"\" class=\"c-image\" loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-pa\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/03\/https:\/\/d1hfln2sfez66z.cloudfront.net\/03-30-2026\/t_b2464da82cc44bc6a3a3c315a6cfeab2_name_LAKETON_RD_.jpeg\"  width=\"800\"\/><\/p>\n<p class=\"ImageMetadata__MetadataParagraph-sc-1htor29-0 jibCgM image-metadata\">RAW: At least 1 dead after high-rise apartment fire in Wilkinsburg Fire crews were called to the Douglas Plaza Apartments in the 2400 block of Laketon Road around noon. <\/p>\n<p class=\"default__StyledText-sc-tl066j-0 gJuxXh body-paragraph\">The victim was found inside that unit and pronounced dead at the scene.<\/p>\n<p class=\"default__StyledText-sc-tl066j-0 gJuxXh body-paragraph\">Firefighters swept the building for hot spots and cleared the smoke after the fire was placed under control at around 1 p.m.<\/p>\n<p class=\"default__StyledText-sc-tl066j-0 gJuxXh body-paragraph\">The Allegheny County Fire Marshall is investigating the exact cause of the fire.
