PHILADELPHIA \u2013 From state officials to sports mascots, Pennsylvania is getting ready to welcome people from across the world.<\/p>\n

The state is in the global spotlight this year, hosting a number of monumental events, including America\u2019s 250th anniversary celebrations, the NFL draft, and six FIFA World Cup matches.<\/p>\n

Reading was recently selected as a \u201cFIFA World Cup Fan Zone.\u201d<\/p>\n

On Tuesday, Gov. Josh Shapiro and the state\u2019s tourism office launched the \u201cVisit PA Playmakers,\u201d<\/a> an official \u201cwelcome committee\u201d for this year\u2019s big events.<\/p>\n

It aims to encourage visitors to come back for future trips, to boost the state economy.<\/p>\n

“In the long term, we’re showing our state off to future tourists, to future businesses, to future residents, and taking advantage of this generational opportunity to elevate Pennsylvania on the global stage,\u201d said Rick Siger, state secretary of community and economic development.<\/p>\n
