Don’t be an April fool, and save yourself $51.<\/p>\n

Starting Wednesday, April 1, the Philadelphia Parking Authority will begin issuing tickets for parking and traffic violations caught by AI-powered cameras mounted on SEPTA trolleys.<\/p>\n

The cameras started rolling last month on 30 trolleys across the SEPTA system’s T1 through T5 lines and the G1 route. A warning period began on March 2 to get drivers’ attention, but now that warning period is over.<\/p>\n

Cameras powered by Hayden AI will be looking for vehicles illegally blocking trolley lanes and stopping zones<\/a>. After violations are reviewed by a PPA enforcement officer and approved, a ticket will be mailed to the address linked to the vehicle’s license plate.<\/p>\n

The technology launched on SEPTA buses last spring<\/a> to crack down on illegally parked vehicles that block bus and trolley routes.<\/p>\n

Philly is the first city in the country to use this technology on trolleys, according to the PPA.<\/p>\n

“Vehicles parked illegally in trolley or bus lanes cause unnecessary delays. A single illegally parked vehicle can disrupt service for thousands of riders and create unsafe boarding conditions that force passengers into moving traffic,” PPA Executive Director Rich Lazer said in a news release.<\/p>\n
