Kailey Tyler a Mercyhurst University student has been named as a 2026 Barry Goldwater Scholar. This achievement is one of the most prestigious awards an undergraduate can receive in the natural sciences, mathematics, and engineering field.<\/p>\n
Tyler is currently a senior in the Applied Forensic Science program at Mercyhurst University. She regularly conducts research in microbiology with Dr. Raj Mohan and is the first Mercyhurst student to receive such an achievement. This competitive scholarship recognizes the potential for a research career from students who showcase outstanding academic achievement.<\/p>\n
\u201cKailey\u2019s selection as a Goldwater Scholar reflects her dedication to research and discovery,\u201d said Rajinikanth Mohan, faculty mentor and professor at Mercyhurst. \u201cShe has demonstrated a strong ability to think critically, pursue complex questions, and contribute meaningfully to her field.\u201d<\/p>\n
Congress had established the scholarship in 1986 supporting those who pursue a career in science, mathematics, and engineering.<\/p>\n
Tyler is one of 450 students chosen nationwide out of over 5,000 nominees.<\/p>\n
\u201cI\u2019m incredibly honored to be selected as a Goldwater Scholar,\u201d Tyler said. \u201cThis recognition reinforces my passion for research and motivates me to continue pursuing opportunities that will allow me to contribute to the scientific community.\u201d<\/p>\n
