Organized every four years by the Carnegie Museum of Art, the Carnegie International is a \u201cdynamic curatorial platform that surveys how art and artists respond to the\u00a0 critical questions of our time,\u201d a press release reads.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cTitled \u2018If the word we,\u2019 the 59th Carnegie International considers the first-person plural as an open and evolving proposition \u2014 one shaped by listening, translation, and transformation \u2014 bringing together artistic practices that engage shared experience, circulation and worlds in transition,\u201d reads <a href=\"https:\/\/carnegieart.org\/exhibition\/59th-carnegie-international\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">a post<\/a> on the Carnegie Museum of Art\u2019s website. \u201cDrawing from a commissioned catalogue essay by writer Haytham el-Wardany, the exhibition approaches \u2018we\u2019 not as a unified subject but as a complex and porous position, attentive to contradiction and change.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The 59th Carnegie International runs May 2 through January 3, 2027. It will bring together new commissions, existing works and projects by 61 artists and collectives, accompanied by a major catalogue and robust public programming through next year.<\/p>\n<p>The museum says the event will take place both inside and outside and at sites across the North Shore, including the Children\u2019s Museum of Pittsburgh, the Kamin Science Center, the Mattress Factory and the newly reopened Thelma Lovette YMCA.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>During its opening weekend, the Carnegie Museum of Art will have extended hours; On May 2, it will open from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m., and on May 3, it will open from noon to 8 p.m.<\/p>\n<p>Also on May 2, visitors are encouraged to barter with artist Peter Jemison on the museum\u2019s front plaza.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOur Hodinoshoni ancestors traveled by canoe to Fort Pitt to trade beaver belts for Euro-American manufactured goods,\u201d Jemison says.
