{"id":155779,"date":"2026-04-02T22:34:10","date_gmt":"2026-04-02T22:34:10","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-pa\/155779\/"},"modified":"2026-04-02T22:34:10","modified_gmt":"2026-04-02T22:34:10","slug":"berks-catholic-grad-part-of-team-that-made-artemis-ii-possible-berks-regional-news","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-pa\/155779\/","title":{"rendered":"Berks Catholic grad part of team that made Artemis II possible | Berks Regional News"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>DOUGLASSVILLE, Pa. \u2014 This is where everything started for Cole Werley, a Berks Catholic graduate, now working at NASA.<\/p>\n<p>Right here in Douglassville, inside a barn in his family\u2019s backyard.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe built one rocket, then we built another rocket. We lost many rockets, so we had to continue building rockets,\u201d said Mitchell Werley, Cole\u2019s father.<\/p>\n<p>A father building rockets with his sons, launching them in the street.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOriginally, we didn&#8217;t have all the trees in the backyard. Eventually, we figured it was better we would go to the front street, that\u2019s when all the neighbors would come out and watch the launch,\u201d Mitchell said.<\/p>\n<p>Years later, that same passion is now part of something much bigger, helping make Artemis II possible.<\/p>\n<p>While the world watched the launch, Cole\u2019s parents watched from home.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt&#8217;s a super proud moment as a parent,\u201d said Kathy Werley. \u201cHe joined NASA back in \u201922 for the first Artemis launch. This was in the making for three and a half years until Artemis II, now with astronauts on board. It was super exciting for us to watch him be a part of all of that.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>That journey started early.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe did take him to Kennedy Space Center when he was seven.
