COOPERSBURG, Pa. – Troop 364 in Coopersburg is still dealing with the aftermath of a crash that destroyed their trailer back in November<\/a>.<\/p>\n

“I got a phone call Sunday morning, November 9th. It was that our trailer was unfortunately involved in an accident. Fortunately, no one was hurt. And when I asked if the trailer was salvageable, I was told no, unfortunately it wouldn’t be,” committee chair Matt Woodruff said.<\/p>\n

The trailer was used to haul gear for monthly campouts and scout activities. Leaders say most of their equipment, like propane stoves and camping gear, was not inside at the time of the crash.<\/p>\n

“It’s been about six months and we’re working through the legal process, the insurance process. Neither of that has cleared up yet, unfortunately,” Woodruff said.<\/p>\n

Since then, the troop relied on a trailer that was loaned to them, but that unit has since been sold.<\/p>\n

“We don’t have access to it any longer,” Woodruff said. “But we’re, you know, we’ve been making due with pickup trucks and people’s personal vehicles to get to the kids between the various camping trips.”<\/p>\n

The cost to replace the totaled trailer is estimated at 8-10,000 dollars.<\/p>\n

Leaders say they’ve launched a GoFundMe<\/a> to help replace it.<\/p>\n

“This troop has been here in Coopersburg since 1930, you know, 96 years. We’ve had 91 Eagle Scouts in that time,” Woodruff said. “And it’s really heartwarming to see the support that we’ve received from the community so far.”<\/p>\n

Officials say their goal is about $10,000. Any money raised beyond the goal or funds received from insurance, would be used for necessary repairs to troop facilities and to support a campership fund for scouts who need financial assistance.<\/p>\n
