HARRISBURG, PA \u2014 The Pennsylvania Treasury has donated nearly $38,000 in unclaimed property, including gift cards and consumer items, to five nonprofit organizations after determining the assets had no identifiable owners, State Treasurer Stacy Garrity announced Wednesday.<\/p>\n
The total value of the donated property is $37,890.36, consisting of more than $28,000 in gift cards and over $9,500 in items such as electronics, tools, and children\u2019s toys, according to Treasury officials.<\/p>\n
The donations were distributed among Caring Cupboard in Palmyra, Casey\u2019s Clubhouse in Pittsburgh, Duffield Veterans Village in Philadelphia, Home Nursing Agency Foundation in Altoona, and the Veterans Multi-Service Center in Lock Haven.<\/p>\n
Garrity said the program allows unclaimed assets to be used when owners cannot be identified.<\/p>\n
\u201cTreasury is continuously working to reunite unclaimed property with its rightful owners, but when that\u2019s not possible, it\u2019s important to put those assets to good use,\u201d Garrity said.<\/p>\n
The items were reported to the Treasury by Pennsylvania police departments without information identifying the rightful owners, making them eligible for donation under state procedures.<\/p>\n
Caring Cupboard received $7,588.74, Casey\u2019s Clubhouse $7,572.27, Duffield Veterans Village $7,578.79, Home Nursing Agency Foundation $7,571.16, and the Veterans Multi-Service Center $7,579.40.<\/p>\n
Nonprofit leaders said the donations will support services including food assistance, community programming, and grief support for children and families.<\/p>\n
The Treasury said it has made similar donations of unclaimed property in prior years, including 2024, 2019, and 2017.<\/p>\n
Unclaimed property can include dormant bank accounts, uncashed checks, and abandoned stocks, and must be reported to the Treasury within three years if an owner is known or within one year if the owner is unknown.<\/p>\n
The Treasury said it has returned more than $1 billion in unclaimed property and continues to hold over $5 billion awaiting claims.<\/p>\n
