SCRANTON, LACKAWANNA CO. (WOLF) \u2014 The Greenhouse Project\u2019s Spring and Easter fundraising plant sale continues through Saturday in Nay Aug Park, giving shoppers a chance to pick up spring plants while supporting the nonprofit\u2019s programs.<\/p>\n
Greenhouse hours are 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at 200 Arthur Ave., with a mix of spring plants, including bulb varieties and early-season flowers. Offerings include tulips, daffodils, hyacinths, pansies, violas, succulents, herbs and edible seedlings.<\/p>\n
Jane Risse, Director\/Manager of The Greenhouse Project, said the plant sale brings in flexible money the nonprofit can put toward whatever it needs, including a new storage shed, part-time help and better supplies.<\/p>\n
\u201cOur plant sale is a really significant fundraiser for us because it\u2019s unrestricted funding, which means we can use it for what we need most. We do a lot of education programs and wellness and health classes, and it\u2019s harder to find funding for that. This helps us keep those classes going,\u201d said Risse.<\/p>\n
Risse added the greenhouse focuses on edible gardening and growing food, and that interest in home growing can rise as grocery prices change. The group also provides plants and donations to community and school gardens and helps maintain planters in the park.<\/p>\n
Most plants at the sale range from $3 to $25, depending on size and type. The Greenhouse Project<\/a> plans additional plant sales later in the spring, including a larger sale around Mother\u2019s Day.<\/p>\n
