In 2001, when their oldest son, Donovan, was diagnosed with autism, Kate and John discovered that there were no local community events to support individuals with autism and their families. The family traveled to Pittsburgh to participate in a walk event. It inspired Kate to bring a Walk event to Erie. The following year, with John’s support and the efforts of several fellow autism families, ASNWPA’s premiere fundraising event was launched. Initially, the event’s aim was to raise awareness of autism. Twenty-five years later, AANWPA is now focused on increasing acceptance of autism throughout Northwestern Pennsylvania,” the family said in part.

In addition to the walk, attendees can also enjoy a kids’ exploration zone complete with activities and bounce houses to go with some good eats from local food trucks, basket raffles and other local vendors and community resource tables.

US Forest Service tabs Warren, PA as site of new regional headquarters

They’ll also be welcoming some special guests, some local and others from a long time ago and far, far away in C.
