{"id":157359,"date":"2026-04-04T19:41:09","date_gmt":"2026-04-04T19:41:09","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-pa\/157359\/"},"modified":"2026-04-04T19:41:09","modified_gmt":"2026-04-04T19:41:09","slug":"troy-residents-rally-against-license-plate-reading-cameras","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-pa\/157359\/","title":{"rendered":"Troy residents rally against license-plate reading cameras"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Residents rallied outside Troy City Hall on Friday over the city&#8217;s contract with Flock and its license-plate reading cameras.<\/p>\n<p>Mayor Carmella Mantello <a href=\"https:\/\/spectrumlocalnews.com\/nys\/capital-region\/news\/2026\/04\/02\/mantello-declares-public-safety-emergency-in-troy-to-keep-license-plate-readers-operational-\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">issued a public safety emergency<\/a> on Wednesday to fund the company&#8217;s contract, after the city council ordered the auditor to pause payments.<\/p>\n<p>Mantello accuses the council of inappropriate interference with public safety.<\/p>\n<p>City Council President Sue Steele\u00a0argues Mantello is violating the city charter.<\/p>\n<p>Protesters raised concerns over citizen privacy.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cFlock also does human detection. Flock also does sound detection. These are all getting fed into the same national database. And where\u2019s the line with public safety and privacy?
