Art isn\u2019t the only draw, though. The Bucks County borough of about 2,600 people boasts a smorgasbord of restaurants, historic buildings, picturesque walks and scenic views of the Delaware River \u2014 qualities that can make it hard to decide how to spend a visit.<\/p>\n
Four locals helped to put together this guide to activities, eats and attractions in New Hope. The below itinerary gives a taste of what a daylong trip to the borough could look like.<\/p>\n
Morning<\/p>\n
\u201cTo really get a flavor of New Hope,\u201d Stephanie Leister, a member of the New Hope Historical Society<\/a>\u2019s executive board, said, \u201cthe best thing you can do is the least expensive thing you can do, which is walk around.\u201d<\/p>\n \u201cWalk around, walk into the galleries, walk into the shops, walk into the little mom-and-pop restaurants,\u201d Leister said. \u201cEverything is very bespoke, very curated, very one of a kind.\u201d<\/p>\n Before you can do that, though, you\u2019ll need to park. Cannon cautioned weekend visitors should budget time for parking<\/a> into their schedules, because the area\u2019s popularity can make it challenging.<\/p>\n Be prepared to pay; street parking is metered and accepts cash, card or the ParkMobile app. If you prefer a parking lot, Greater New Hope Chamber of Commerce President Michael Sklar recommends keeping your car at Union Square or New Hope-Solebury High School. The school\u2019s lot is open to the public on the weekends (and sometimes charges a fee that benefits the booster club).<\/p>\n If you need breakfast or coffee before you head into New Hope\u2019s core, try Poppa-Frank\u2019s<\/a> (a Sklar recommendation) or Amsterdam Coffee Bar<\/a>, a Leister favorite that boasts a tasty drink called the Lemon Lush and gallery of bonsai trees.<\/p>\n Or you can park and find food along your stroll. Leister recommended Factory Girl Bake Shop<\/a> for a sweet treat, and Sklar said weekend brunch at Karla\u2019s<\/a> \u2014 \u201cespecially their martinis\u201d \u2014 is a local favorite.<\/p>\n As you amble, keep an eye out for markers throughout the borough that share the history behind some buildings. And don\u2019t miss dozens of works of public sculpture<\/a> scattered around the area.<\/p>\n If the weather is pretty, check out some pocket parks and the Towpath Trail<\/a>, said Victoria Short, secretary for the borough Visitor\u2019s Center<\/a> and a resident for nearly 50 years.<\/p>\n \u201cOne of my most popular pamphlets is called the canal loops, because you can walk from here to Easton on the Pennsylvania side, and then on the corresponding Jersey side, and then cross back and forth at the bridges,\u201d Short said. \u201cSo, if you\u2019re cycling or walking, you have an expanse of opportunity there.\u201d<\/p>\n Early afternoon<\/p>\n At lunchtime, you\u2019ve got plenty of options for food. Though it\u2019s a small borough, New Hope has over two dozen restaurants, according to Sklar.<\/p>\n A few of his recommendations: the pizza at Fran\u2019s Pub<\/a>, the view of the Delaware at Martine\u2019s Riverhouse Restaurant<\/a>, or the burger at the Salt House<\/a>. \u201cYou can\u2019t go wrong,\u201d Sklar said. \u201cIt really depends on what you crave.\u201d<\/p>\n For a crowd-pleasing spot with on-the-go options, the Ferry Market food hall<\/a> is a good bet. Offerings range from Mediterranean to Peruvian to salads made with locally grown ingredients.<\/p>\n After lunch, you can choose your own adventure.<\/p>\n If you\u2019re a history lover, consider a tour of the Parry Mansion Museum<\/a>, the former home of the \u201cfather of New Hope,\u201d Benjamin Parry, or a visit to the Locktender\u2019s House<\/a>, which used to serve the Delaware Canal.<\/p>\n You could also keep traipsing, and explore the shopping and art scene along the way. Some artsy suggestions from the locals include Gallery Piquel, the Dancing Elephant<\/a>, Chromium<\/a>, Arete Gallery<\/a>, the Creeper Gallery<\/a> and New Hope Arts<\/a>. Short recommends the Red Tulip Gallery<\/a>, which she called \u201cone-stop shopping for the art scene.\u201d<\/p>\n For antiquing enthusiasts, Short recommends walking over the bridge to New Hope\u2019s sister city of Lambertville, New Jersey, to check out some of the shops there, including the People\u2019s Store<\/a>, a four-story treasure trove.<\/p>\n For families with kids, Leister recommends the Bucks County Children\u2019s Museum<\/a> or driving to nearby Lahaska to visit Giggleberry Fair<\/a>, an indoor play space.<\/p>\n Evening<\/p>\n New Hope isn\u2019t just a visual arts town; it\u2019s a hub for performance too. So why not finish out the day with dinner and a show?<\/p>\n Evening dining options abound. If you\u2019re looking for an upscale date-night spot, Sklar encouraged getting a reservation at Zoubi<\/a>, a gastropub with indoor seating and a courtyard where it feels like you\u2019re \u201cdining in a fairytale.\u201d<\/p>\n Short recommended Stella<\/a> along the Delaware River, or Oldestone Steakhouse<\/a>. For \u201can indoor\/outdoor feeling\u201d with \u201cfun, shareable small plates,\u201d Cannon highlighted Nektar<\/a>. And for seafood and steaks, Leister suggested the newly opened Maddy Rose<\/a>.<\/p>\n Depending on what\u2019s running at the Bucks County Playhouse<\/a> \u2014 one of the borough\u2019s \u201ctop draws,\u201d according to Short \u2014 you may be able to see a musical, play or cabaret performance after you eat.<\/p>\n For a double-whammy \u2014 dinner and music at the same time \u2014 visit Havana<\/a>, which hosts some of the \u201cbest cover bands you\u2019ve ever heard,\u201d Leister said.<\/p>\n Other food-plus-entertainment options include John and Peter\u2019s<\/a>, a music club that serves fare like burgers, wings and quesadillas through midnight, and Odette\u2019s<\/a>, an upscale surf-and-turf restaurant with a piano lounge<\/a>.
