EXCITEMENT AND WATER FILLED THE AIR AT POINT STATE PARK THIS AFTERNOON, AS THE ICONIC FOUNTAIN WAS TURNED BACK ON, AND ALL OF THE IMPROVEMENTS TO THE PARK CAME AHEAD OF SCHEDULE AND OF COURSE, AHEAD OF THE NFL DRAFT. THIS FOUNTAIN IS ICONIC. THIS IS OUR SIGNATURE AS A CITY AND AS A REGION BECAUSE IT IS THE GATEWAY TO OUR NEIGHBORHOODS. IT\u2019S THE GATEWAY TO DOWNTOWN. WHEN VISITORS COME THROUGH THAT TUNNEL, THEY\u2019RE GOING TO SEE THIS FIRST. $3.4 MILLION. THAT\u2019S HOW MUCH THIS IMPROVEMENT PROJECT COST. IT INCLUDED IMPROVEMENTS TO THE FLAG BASED PARKING, CONCESSIONS, LANDSCAPING, HARDSCAPE, AND, OF COURSE, THE ICONIC FOUNTAIN. THIS IS PART OF GOVERNOR SHAPIRO\u2019S TEN YEAR PLAN TO REVITALIZE DOWNTOWN PITTSBURGH. THE SECOND PHASE OF WORK AT THE PARK IS PART OF A BROADER TEN YEAR STRATEGY. GOVERNOR SHAPIRO LAUNCHED LAST OCTOBER, UNITING PITTSBURGH\u2019S PRIVATE SECTOR, LOCAL GOVERNMENT, CORPORATE LEADERS AND NONPROFITS BEHIND A PLAN TO BUILD MORE HOUSING, REVITALIZE PUBLIC SPACES AND IMPROVE SAFETY, CLEANLINESS AND AFFORDABILITY DOWNTOWN. THE IMPROVEMENTS WE\u2019RE MAKING HERE AND THROUGHOUT DOWNTOWN PITTSBURGH WILL BENEFIT OUR REGION FOR YEARS TO COME. One of the main improvements talked about was the Point State Park fountain. &#8220;The fountain is iconic,&#8221; Allegheny County Executive Sara Innamorato said. &#8220;This is our signature as a city and as a region.&#8221; The $3.4 million improvement project included changes to parking, concessions, landscaping, hardscape, and the iconic city fountain. The new improvements come as part of Gov. Josh Shapiro&#8217;s 10-year plan to revitalize Downtown Pittsburgh. The second phase of work at the park is part of a broader 10-year strategy Shapiro launched last October, uniting Pittsburgh&#8217;s private sector, local government, corporate leaders, and nonprofits behind a plan to build more housing, revitalize public spaces, and improve safety, among other things. Other projects like Arts Landing and Market Square will be opening soon.
