{"id":160485,"date":"2026-04-08T14:49:44","date_gmt":"2026-04-08T14:49:44","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-pa\/160485\/"},"modified":"2026-04-08T14:49:44","modified_gmt":"2026-04-08T14:49:44","slug":"erie-county-seeks-to-keep-replace-sbca-programs","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-pa\/160485\/","title":{"rendered":"Erie County seeks to keep, replace SBCA programs"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The Erie County Legislature is pleased that the county&#8217;s district attorney has initiated an investigation into the <a href=\"https:\/\/spectrumlocalnews.com\/nys\/buffalo\/news\/2026\/03\/13\/many-seneca-babcock-community-association-services-to-end\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Seneca-Babcock Community Association<\/a>, which recently terminated or suspended most of its services after losing its nonprofit status.<\/p>\n<p>CEO and president Brian Pilarski also submitted his resignation in March.<\/p>\n<p>The Seneca-Babcock Community Association also falsely claimed that the organization maintained its tax-exempt status with the IRS in order to obtain payment for programming, Legislative Chair Tim Meyers said. A representative from the Department of Social Services disclosed that documentation during the latest Finance &amp; Management Committee meeting.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;I am grateful that the Erie County District Attorney has initiated an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the Seneca-Babcock Community Association. The facts must be established fully and independently, and the District Attorney&#8217;s office is the appropriate authority to do that work,&#8221; legislature chair Tim Meyers said. &#8220;We respect that process and we will not seek to get ahead of it.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>The Legislature said it has a responsibility to keep remaining programs, or install replacements for seniors and the broader community.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;The Legislature&#8217;s responsibility to the seniors of the First District and the broader community does not pause while that investigation proceeds.
