Gannon University is taking the plunge during the Bear Force One Polar Plunge from now until 4 p.m.<\/p>\n
Students, faculty, staff, and even President Iwanenko are plunging into cold waters under the Gannon Arch on West 7th Street in Erie.<\/p>\n
The event encourages the community to come together to show support for the Special Olympics of Pennsylvania. Funds raised during the event will be distributed to the Special Olympics.<\/p>\n
The goal was to raise $10,000 and as of today Gannon has reached that goal. Meaning that President Walter Iwanenko will be taking the plunge alongside the other participants.<\/p>\n
The Plunge was organized by the chapter of Alpha Sigma Alpha with a friendly competition with Mercyhurst University, PennWest Edinboro, and Penn State Behrend, all hoping to raise the most this year.<\/p>\n
Those who raise money during this plunge will receive special rewards. Individuals who raise at least $50 will receive a Special Olympics sweatshirt and those who raise $250 will receive a commemorative blanket.<\/p>\n
The community is encouraged to attend the event to cheer on participants and to support fundraising for this event.<\/p>\n
