ALLENTOWN, Pa. – An upcoming mass has been scheduled to commemorate a milestone for the Diocese of Allentown.<\/p>\n
Bishop Alfred Schlert will celebrate a Mass of Thanksgiving marking the diocese’s 65th Anniversary on Saturday, April 11, at 4:15 p.m. at the Cathedral of St. Catharine of Siena, located at 1825 W. Turner Street, Allentown.<\/p>\n
On April 11, 1961, Bishop Joseph McShea was installed as founding bishop, establishing the diocese that has served the Lehigh Valley and surrounding region for 65 years.<\/p>\n
The special liturgy will bring together the faithful from across the five-county diocese to give thanks for 65 years of faith, service, and hope. The diocese includes parishes in Berks, Carbon, Lehigh, Northampton and Schuylkill counties.<\/p>\n
Representatives from parishes throughout the diocese will carry their parish banners in the entrance procession, and priests and deacons of the diocese are invited to concelebrate the Mass.<\/p>\n
