{"id":16161,"date":"2025-10-27T01:52:13","date_gmt":"2025-10-27T01:52:13","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-pa\/16161\/"},"modified":"2025-10-27T01:52:13","modified_gmt":"2025-10-27T01:52:13","slug":"philadelphia-celebrates-30th-anniversary-of-million-man-march","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-pa\/16161\/","title":{"rendered":"Philadelphia celebrates 30th anniversary of Million Man March"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>From Philly and the Pa. suburbs to South Jersey and Delaware, what would you like WHYY News to cover? <a href=\"#Section1\">Let us know!<\/a>\n<\/p>\n<p>Hundreds of Philadelphians of all ages marched to LOVE Park on Sunday to mark the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.brotherlyaction.com\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">30th anniversary of the Million Man March<\/a>.\n<\/p>\n<p>In 1995, the march led by the Nation of Islam\u2019s controversial leader, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.npr.org\/2003\/06\/25\/1308840\/minister-louis-farrakhan\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Minister Louis Farrakhan<\/a>, served as a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.pbs.org\/thisfarbyfaith\/journey_5\/p_6.html\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">\u201choly day of atonement and reconciliation\u201d<\/a> for African American men. On that day, Farrakhan urged them to \u201cbuild your own communities, avoid drugs and violence, register to vote, build Black political power and invest in Black businesses.\u201d\n<\/p>\n<p>Local activist <a href=\"https:\/\/6abc.com\/post\/kenneth-abdus-salam-dr-martin-luther-king-jr-philadelphia-girard-college-civil-rights\/14327473\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Kenneth Salaam<\/a> was the first guest to take the stage this Sunday.
