IT IS 656. TIME FOR WGAL NEWS 8 TO GO. THE NEWS EIGHT STORM TEAM IS HERE TO HELP YOU START YOUR DAY. AND WE START WITH NEW CHARGES AGAINST FORMER GETTYSBURG MAYOR CHAD ALAN CARR. AFTER THREE NEW ACCUSERS HAVE COME FORWARD. THOSE CHARGES INCLUDE SEXUAL ASSAULT AND CORRUPTION OF MINORS, THE COURT DOCUMENTS SAY CARR MET THE ACCUSERS THROUGH CONNECTIONS IN LOCAL THEATER AND PERFORMING ARTS, AND ALSO ON A DATING APP. THE ALLEGED ABUSE DATES BACK TO 2015. A PRELIMINARY HEARING DATE HAS NOT YET BEEN SET. IN THIS CASE. THE STAFF HERE AT CASA SAY IT’S NOTHING LIKE HAVING SOMEONE IN YOUR CORNER WHEN YOU’RE INSIDE THE COURTROOM, AND THAT’S EXACTLY WHAT THREE NEW VOLUNTEERS WILL BE DOING SOON AS THEY ARE BEING SWORN IN TODAY TO STEP IN FOR THOSE CHILDREN. IF YOU WOULD LIKE TO BE A CASA VOLUNTEER TO SHOW UP FOR CHILDREN IN THE COURTROOM, THE NEXT SESSION IS IN JUNE. IF YOU LIVE ALONG OR EAST OF THE SUSQUEHANNA RIVER, YOU’RE LIKELY SEEING SOME LOW CLOUDS THIS MORNING. WEST, YOU’RE GETTING MORE SUN, SO THESE CLOUDS WILL BE TEMPORARY. I DO THINK WE SEE MOSTLY SUNNY CONDITIONS LATER, BUT THE BIG BLUE H HIGH PRESSURE IS RESPONSIBLE FOR THOSE CLOUDS THIS MORNING. IT’S GIVING US THIS SOUTHERLY FLOW BRINGING IN A LITTLE BIT OF OCEAN AIR. SO TEMPORARY CLOUDS. THEN WE GET BACK TO SUNSHINE WITH THE SUNSHINE TODAY WE’RE TALKING ABOUT HIGHS NEAR 60. SO MORE TYPICAL FOR APRIL. RIGHT NOW THOUGH IT’S A FROSTY START IN MANY SPOTS. IT’S 31 IN YORK, 32 IN LANCASTER, 30 IN LEBANON. WE HAVE SOME MID 30S WEST, SO NOT AS COLD AS IT WAS YESTERDAY, BUT STILL BELOW AVERAGE. OUR TARGET HIGH TODAY IS 60 WITH SUNSHINE THIS AFTERNOON. TONIGHT WE’RE DOWN TO 40. SO NOT QUITE AS COLD. I DO THINK WE’LL SEE SOME LOW CLOUDS AND FOG FORMING UP AGAIN TOMORROW MORNING. BUT THEN BACK TO SUNSHINE TOMORROW AFTERNOON WITH A WARMER HIGH OF 72. WE’LL TALK ABOUT THE WEEKEND COMING UP. WE DO HAVE A DISABLED VEHICLE IN LITITZ BOROUGH, LANCASTER COUNTY ROUTE 501 SOUTH BROAD STREET. THAT’S SLOWING DOWN A LITTLE BIT OF TRAFFIC THERE. ALSO A CRASH IN HANOVER COUNTY, DARK DRIVE AT CARLISLE STREET. WATCH OUT FOR THAT AS YOU’RE HEADING OUT. HARRISBURG. MEANTIME, I-83 AT 19TH STREET LOOKING BUSY ON THIS THURSDAY MORNING. IF YOU’RE HEADING OUT. HARRISBURG AND LANCASTER 35 MINUTE DRIVE THERE. A LITTLE BIT SLOW AND JUST UNDER A 20 MINUTE DRIVE. IF YOU’RE HEADED TO YORK. IF YOU LOOK AT GAS PRICES, THE STATE AVERAGE FOR A GALLON OF REGULAR IS AT 419 THIS MORNING, DOWN A PENNY FROM YESTERDAY, BUT STILL UP $1.07 A GALLON. FROM THE START OF THE WAR, MANY OF THE COUNTIES IN THE SUSQUEHANNA VALLEY ARE AVERAGING HIGHER THAN THE STATE AVERAGE. THERE ARE ALSO A FEW COUNTIES THAT ARE AT OR BELOW THE STATE AVERAGE, THE LOWEST PRICE IN THE SUSQUEHANNA VALLEY STILL IN FRANKLIN COUNTY AT 410 A GALLON THIS MORNING. AND WHILE LANCASTER COUNTY IS AVERAGING 422, YOU CAN FIND HIGHER OR LOWER PRICES. IN FACT, JUST THIS MORNING DURING NEWS 8 TODAY, THIS PRICE AT THE GAS STATION ON MANHEIM PIKE AND MANHEIM TOWNSHIP DROPPED $0.24. IT IS NOW AT 415 THIS MORNING AND TEMPERATURES ARE NOT DROPPING. THEY’RE GOING UP OVER THE NEXT COUPLE OF DAYS. I TOLD YOU WE TALK ABOUT THE WEEKEND. TAKE A LOOK AT SATURDAY. MOSTLY SUNNY, PLEASANT 64 SUNDAY PARTLY SUNNY, COMFORTABLE, 66 DEGREES. AND IF YOU WANT TO GO UP HIGHER THAN THAT, HOW ABOUT SOME 80S EARLY NEXT WEEK? MONDAY, TUESDAY

Pennsylvania organizations receive grants to boost security

The funding will be used for security planning.

   Updated: 1:10 PM EDT Apr 9, 2026

  Editorial Standards ⓘ

Nearly 200 faith-based organizations and nonprofits across Pennsylvania, including 24 in the Susquehanna Valley, are receiving grant funding to enhance security measures.
