Experience Colonial life with interactive learning and exploration during A Revolutionary Children\u2019s Day held at Daniel Boone Homestead in Exeter Township from noon to 4 p.m. on Sunday, May 3.<\/p>\n

The fun-filled afternoon features hands-on activities and demonstrations for children and their families. Children will have the opportunity to learn about Daniel Boone\u2019s childhood in the Oley Valley and participate in various 18th century, hands-on activities such as textile processing, candle dipping, quill pen writing, butter making, tinsmithing, and more.<\/p>\n

In celebration of America\u2019s 250th birthday, young visitors can pick up \u201cWashington\u2019s Orders\u201d to guide them through Revolutionary War activities, ending with a visit with General Washington.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe are excited to celebrate the signing of the Declaration of Independence with a new, fun activity for children and their families. With their \u2018Orders\u2019 in hand, children can make their way to join the local militia, where they will learn and practice muster drills with wooden dummy guns. Then visit the local gunsmith and learn about the Continental Army and the long rifle,\u201d the Daniel Boone Homestead Associates, a nonprofit organization that runs daily historic operations, stated in the release.<\/p>\n

Children can try sitting in a soldier\u2019s saddle as they practice their swordsmanship skills.<\/p>\n

\u201cOnce your \u2018Orders\u2019 are complete, visit General Washington at his Headquarters inside the Boone House and receive a special letter marking your achievement.\u201d<\/p>\n

Throughout the afternoon, volunteers will teach children how to write with a quill pen and dip candles as they learn about handwriting, schooling, and lighting in the 18th century.<\/p>\n

Children will learn about Daniel\u2019s mother, Sarah Boone, and her famous butter and cheese as they explore the spring cellar and smokehouse. Volunteers will talk about food preservation, and children will have a chance to help make butter.<\/p>\n

Of course, a youngster\u2019s time wasn\u2019t all work \u2014 children will have a chance to play colonial games and enjoy old-fashioned toys.<\/p>\n

In addition, the Boone House and the Bertolet Log House will be open for tours. The birthplace of the famed frontiersman born in 1734, the Boone House is a 10-room stone structure fully furnished to the period that was constructed in three stages throughout the 18th century.<\/p>\n

During Children\u2019s Day, learn about Daniel\u2019s father, Squire Boone, and his job as a colonial weaver. Stop by the Homestead barn to learn about textile processing.<\/p>\n

Admission: Adults $10, Seniors (65+) $8, Youth (6-17) $5. Children 5 and under and DBHA members are free. Please, no pets (except service animals) and no smoking.<\/p>\n

The event is funded and presented by the Daniel Boone Homestead Associates.
