More than 300 pigeons were found in filthy, utterly cuckoo conditions in a Pennsylvania hoarder house \u2014 ruffling the feathers of even the most seasoned wildlife rescuers.<\/p>\n
The birds were discovered nesting in nearly every crevice of the foul-smelling, droppings-splattered home in Wilkes-Barre \u2014 including under a king-sized mattress and on top of a dresser, <\/a>wnep.com reported.<\/a><\/p>\n More than 300 pigeons were found living in an elderly woman\u2019s Pennsylvania home. Pocono Wildlife Rehabilitation and Education Center<\/p>\n \u201cWe flipped the bed, and literally the floor was sinking from the amount of defecation and urination,\u201d said Janine Tancredi of the Pocono Wildlife Rehabilitation Center,<\/a> which removed the birds<\/a> Tuesday.<\/p>\n The stomach-turning scene was enough to make her squawk in horror.<\/p>\n \u201cAs far as bird hoarding, this is the worst case I\u2019ve ever seen,\u201d she told the station, adding she\u2019s done years\u00a0 of domestic animal rescues. \u201cIt was a lot.\u201d<\/p>\n A total of 318 birds were ultimately saved from the house,\u00a0 including many that were malnourished, had\u00a0 broken beaks and injured legs, she said.<\/p>\n Twelve of the pigeons had to be euthanized.<\/p>\n The birds were on a bed, under a bed and over a bed, among other places.
