SCRANTON, LACKAWANNA COUNTY (WBRE\/WYOU) \u2014 The Electric City got its name because it was the first in the nation to have electric-powered streetcars, and now it\u2019s that time of the year when you can ride one yourself.<\/p>\n

The Scranton Trolley Excursions started up this week for the season, and it\u2019s their first weekend of operation.<\/p>\n

On Saturday, people boarded at the main passenger platform of the Steamtown National Historic Site for trolley rides that went to Montage Mountain and back. Each trip is around 45 minutes long.<\/p>\n

Anyone who went on the ride got to enjoy nice scenery and had the chance to learn a lot about the history of Scranton and its ties to trains.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s honestly really cool, the history here is really great. The restorations they do for these are incredible, honestly,\u201d Thomas Semmel from Lehighton said.<\/p>\n

On select Sundays during the summer, the trolley ride will also go to PNC Field, bringing fans right to Scranton Wilkes-Barre Railriders games.<\/p>\n
