ALLENTOWN, Pa. (WFMZ-TV) – April 15 is the last day to file federal taxes for most Americans without facing penalties.<\/p>\n
Klever Ortiz, owner of United Tax Solutions in Allentown, says his office has prepared around 1,000 tax returns this year for both individuals and businesses.<\/p>\n
Ortiz says it\u2019s crucial to find the right tax professional to ensure you get the best return.<\/p>\n
\u201cIt\u2019s very important to know if that professional is certified, and is in compliance with the IRS. That is very important,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
He also stresses the importance of submitting everything on time.<\/p>\n
\u201cIf you miss the deadline, you have to send your taxes as quickly as possible because every month you have to pay interest and penalties,\u201d Ortiz said.<\/p>\n
Some taxpayers in Allentown are ahead of the game, while others are cutting it close, having started their filings weeks ago but only finishing last week.<\/p>\n
According to Ortiz, taxpayers who can\u2019t complete their filings in time still have an option.<\/p>\n
They can file for an extension, but the extension request must also be submitted by April 15.<\/p>\n
