Although it\u2019s been five months since Sabrina Carpenter wrapped up the first leg of her \u201cShort n\u2019 Sweet\u201d<\/a> tour in Stockholm, Sweden, the pop sensation hasn\u2019t slowed down one bit. In that time, she\u2019s lit up festival stages at Austin City Limits<\/a> and Lollapalooza<\/a>, performed at the 2025 VMAs<\/a>, released her most recent album \u201cMan\u2019s Best Friend\u201d<\/a> and, just this past week, pulled double duty as both host and musical guest on \u201cSaturday Night Live.\u201d<\/a> Keeping her foot firmly on the gas, there is no better way to dive back into tour mode than kicking off the second North American leg of the \u201cShort n\u2019 Sweet\u201d tour in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Carpenter performed twice in Pittsburgh \u2014 Oct. 23 and 24 at PPG Paints Arena \u2014 and while the hype was high,<\/a> expectations were mixed. Coming off the heels of such a packed tour hiatus, fans were eager to see <\/a>what this next stretch of tour would bring, with an entire new album to consider. \u201cMan\u2019s Best Friend\u201d signaled a new era of Carpenter\u2019s artistry, but the singer was still touring in support of her previous record. But after her second-leg debut on Thursday night, Carpenter proved she can balance the \u201cShort n\u2019 Sweet\u201d era while leaving plenty of space to experiment and even debut new songs.\u00a0<\/p>\n

With Olivia Dean as the opener, the crowd was ready to be entertained, with Dean singing and dancing to her very own recently released album, \u201cThe Art of Loving.\u201d<\/a> She kicked off her opening set with \u201cNice to Each Other,\u201d<\/a> and the audience swelled with energy as voices joined in on the lyric \u201cI don\u2019t want a boyfriend.\u201d Performing in a sparkling gown with a gentle breeze blowing her hair, Dean owned the stage, literally lighting up the arena with disco ball lighting and visuals.<\/p>\n

Kayla McClaughlin, a student at Carlow University, said she was almost as excited to see Dean perform as she was to watch Carpenter.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s rare that you get two great shows in one night,\u201d McClaughlin said. \u201cUsually I use the opener\u2019s set to grab a drink or go to the bathroom, but I\u2019m so excited to see Olivia Dean, too.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n

By 9 p.m., the wait was up. After a series of \u201cShort n\u2019 Sweet\u201d-themed videos amping up the audience, Carpenter took the stage to \u201cTaste,\u201d<\/a> tossing aside her towel to reveal a glittering leopard-print one-piece. The concert\u2019s first two acts stayed true to the established \u201cShort n\u2019 Sweet\u201d formula, featuring previous album \u201cemails i can\u2019t send fwd:\u201d fan favorites like \u201cFast Times,\u201d<\/a> the crowd-pleaser \u201cFeather\u201d<\/a> and one of Carpenter\u2019s few ballads in her discography \u201cbecause i liked a boy.\u201d<\/a>\u00a0<\/p>\n

Between acts, Carpenter made one of several costume changes, emerging in a sparkly black catsuit. Known for her glamorous aesthetic<\/a>, she took a moment to acknowledge the sea of skirts, bows and go-go boots among fans, saying, \u201cI see all of your costumes and effort for my shows. I want you all to know, it does not go unnoticed.\u201d<\/p>\n

A signature moment<\/a> of every \u201cShort n\u2019 Sweet\u201d show comes when Carpenter \u201carrests\u201d a celebrity, musician or influencer for \u201cbeing too hot\u201d \u2014 a playful bit that distinguishes each city\u2019s stop. Katie Wilde, a student at Youngstown State University, said she is eager to see who would be arrested in Pittsburgh.\u00a0<\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019ve been trying to think of what celebrity is specific to Pittsburgh,\u201d Wilde said. \u201cAll I can think of are athletes, and I really hope it\u2019s not some football player or something.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n

To Wilde\u2019s delight, Carpenter \u201carrested\u201d international supermodel Gigi Hadid, a Bucks County, Pennsylvania, native, before diving into one of her biggest and most-talked about hits \u2014 \u201cJuno.\u201d<\/a><\/p>\n

Concertgoer Lindsay Hiddon said she was most looking forward to seeing Carpenter\u2019s iconic \u201cJuno\u201d pose \u2014 a risqu\u00e9, tongue-in-cheek hallmark of the tour that matches the pop star\u2019s raunchy lyricism.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Hiddon added that she was really hoping to hear \u201cTears,\u201d<\/a> though she is \u201cdoubtful it will make the setlist since it\u2019s from the new album.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n

Fortunately for Hiddon and \u201cMan\u2019s Best Friend\u201d fans everywhere, Carpenter surprised Pittsburgh with four tracks from the record \u2014 \u201cManchild,\u201d<\/a> \u201cHouse Tour\u201d<\/a> and \u201cTears\u201d as official additions, plus \u201cNobody\u2019s Son\u201d<\/a> as Thursday night\u2019s surprise song.<\/p>\n

After about an hour and a half of pop music, dance breaks, costume changes, audience interaction and high-energy all around, Carpenter ended the concert with her most-streamed release, \u201cEspresso.\u201d<\/a>\u00a0<\/p>\n

As the final instrumentals of \u201cEspresso\u201d faded, fans began to spill out of the arena and into the cool Pittsburgh night. That Thursday night, Carpenter gave it all to Pittsburgh \u2014 new songs, new energy, but still that same effortless charm.
