GOES OFF TO A HOT START AND SO ARE OUR TEMPERATURES AS WE WORK THROUGH THIS WEEK. STARTING TO FEEL A BIT MORE LIKE SUMMER. IT IS AN IMPACT DAY THOUGH, AS WE’LL TRACK SOME SCATTERED RAIN CHANCES. EVEN SOME ISOLATED THUNDERSTORMS PRIMARILY NORTH OF THE CITY. THAT WILL BE THROUGH THE AFTERNOON. EARLY PARTS OF THE EVENING, EVERYBODY FEELING SUMMER. EVEN EARLY THIS MORNING. TEMPERATURES WILL REGISTER IN THE LOW 80S THIS AFTERNOON AS THE WIND PICKS UP WITH SOME 30 MILE PER HOUR GUSTS. THINGS FAIRLY QUIET, JUST CLOUDY AS WE TAKE A LIVE LOOK OVER THE CITY OF PITTSBURGH WITH ACTION. CAM 65. OUR CURRENT TEMPERATURE AND THAT WIND WILL GROW STRONGER AS WE GO THROUGH THE DAY. ALREADY SOME VERY ISOLATED TEENY TINY SHOWERS SHOWING UP AROUND SLIPPERY ROCK AND HARRISVILLE. THAT’S FAR NORTHERN BUTLER COUNTY EVEN SAW A LITTLE BIT OF A SPECK AROUND WORTHINGTON AS WE CROSS OVER INTO ARMSTRONG COUNTY. BUT FOR MOST OF US STARTING OFF, THE DAY, JUST CLOUDY. BUT AS WE WORK THROUGH THIS IMPACT DAY, WE WILL SEE MORE ACTIVE WEATHER ON THE RADAR. THAT INCLUDES SCATTERED RAIN, EVEN SOME ISOLATED THUNDERSTORMS THROUGH THE AFTERNOON. 81 OUR HIGH WARMER STILL TOMORROW AS TEMPERATURES WILL COME CLOSE TO THE RECORD IN PITTSBURGH, WE KEEP THESE UNSEASONABLY WARM TEMPERATURES STRAIGHT THROUGH SATURDAY ALONG THE RHINE. ALSO, SOME BUMPS IN THE ROAD WITH SOME OCCASIONAL SHOWER THUNDERSTORM CHANCES. THEN TEMPERATURES TREND MORE SEASONAL AS WE GET SET FOR THE START OF DRAFT WEEK NEXT WEEK. LET’S TALK ABOUT YOUR IMPACT DAY AGAIN. HEADING OUT THE DOOR, YOU MAY CATCH A STRAY SPRINKLE THAT’S GOING TO BE ABOUT IT AFTER THE LUNCH HOUR. THAT’S WHEN WE’LL TURN OUR ATTENTION TO THE NORTHWEST OF PITTSBURGH. I ANTICIPATE AN ISOLATED STORM. ALSO SOME RAIN TO BE MOVING IN, ESPECIALLY FOR SPOTS IN PARTS OF LAWRENCE BEAVER, POSSIBLY EVEN AS FAR SOUTH AS WASHINGTON COUNTIES THAT WOULD ENTER ALLEGHENY COUNTY, CLOSE TO THE CITY OF PITTSBURGH. JUST AS MANY OF THE KIDDOS ARE HEADING OUT THE DOOR AFTER SCHOOL. MAYBE SOME AFTER SCHOOL ACTIVITIES. THAT CLUSTER OF RAIN AND THUNDERSTORMS WILL CONTINUE TO SWING OFF TOWARDS THE EAST, AND ALL INDICATIONS HAVE BEEN IT LOOKS LIKE THE TURNPIKE IS GOING TO BE THE GUIDING LINE FOR A LOT OF THAT ACTIVITY AS WE WORK THROUGH THE AFTERNOON, MAYBE A LITTLE BIT OF A BREAK AS MOM AND DAD ARE LEAVING THE OFFICE, BUT STILL SOME ISOLATED STORMS. AGAIN, PRIMARILY NORTH OF ALLEGHENY COUNTY, WILL CONTINUE THROUGH ABOUT SUNSET. SO THE BUC-EE’S GAME SHOULD BE OKAY IF EVERYTHING PANS OUT AS IT SHOULD. LATER ON TODAY. MEANWHILE, THE ENTIRE AREA THAT’S ALL WESTERN PENNSYLVANIA INCLUDED IN TODAY’S ISOLATED, STRONG TO SEVERE STORM RISK. AGAIN, I THINK MOST OF YOU SOUTH OF PITTSBURGH ARE GOING TO BE SPARED AT LEAST THIS GO AROUND AND FOR THE NEXT SEVERAL DAYS TO DOWNPOURS, THOUGH ALSO SOME STRONG DAMAGING WINDS WILL BE THE PRIMARY THREAT WITH ANY OF THAT ACTIVITY THAT BUBBLES UP TODAY. MOST OF US TAKE A BREAK, CATCH A BREAK AS WE WORK THROUGH YOUR WEDNESDAY. THAT WILL ALLOW THOSE TEMPERATURES TO QUICKLY WARM INTO THE MID 80S TOMORROW AFTERNOON. IF WE HAPPEN TO SEE ANY OF THOSE SHOWERS AND THUNDERSTORMS, IT’S GOING TO BE CLOSER TO I-80 AS WE WORK LATE IN THE DAY. EVENTUALLY, THAT FRONT IS GOING TO SINK A LITTLE FARTHER TO THE SOUTH. THAT WILL OPEN THE WINDOW FOR JUST ABOUT EVERYBODY TO CATCH AT LEAST A FEW RAINDROPS. THAT’S THURSDAY NIGHT INTO FRIDAY. FOR THE TIME BEING. IMPACT DAY TODAY 81 WITH ISOLATED STORMS AFTER THE LUNCH HOUR THROUGH ABOUT SUNSET, WARMER STILL WILL BE A RECORD HIGH WATCH TOMORROW. STILL KEEPING THOSE TEMPERATURES HOVERING AROUND 80 THROUGH FRIDAY. WARMEST DAY OF THE WEEK IS SATURDAY. SOME BIG CHANGES COMING OVER THE WEEKEND. POTENTIAL FOR IMPACT DAYS THERE WITH A FRONT THAT WILL SLING RAIN OUR WAY A

Impact Day: Scattered rain, storms possible north of Pittsburgh

The best chance for isolated strong thunderstorms will be north of US-422.

   Updated: 6:59 AM EDT Apr 14, 2026

  Editorial Standards ⓘ

Today is an Impact Day for the potential for a late-day thunderstorms. Summer-like temperatures are assisting the unsettled set-up through the end of the week.Impact Day: Afternoon storms northIsolated showers will be around throughout the day. We will monitor a wave of rain and embedded storms that will drop southward this afternoon and evening. The window opens up as early as 1 p.m or 2 p.m. to the northwest of Pittsburgh. The entirety of western Pennsylvania is included in today’s isolated severe storm threat, however a line near and north of PA Turnpike are most likely to catch one of the storms. Downpours and strong winds are the top threats from any thunderstorms. Activity will fizzle as sunset approaches.Near-record warmth WednesdayOutside of the daily showers chance, we are also tracking a surge of unseasonable warmth. We will see a string of 80-degree days. There will be a chance of tying a record high on Wednesday. We could also break the record for most mornings at or above 60° in April by the end of the week.More rain chances through the weekendMost of the unsettled weather will be confined north of Pittsburgh, closer to a boundary draped across the Great Lakes. The daily dose of showers will continue through Friday morning. A front will get a better push late Saturday with area-wide rain and dropping temperatures. High temperatures this weekend will go from the mid 80s on Saturday, then plunge into the 50s and 60s by Sunday. Temperatures will reset to more seasonal levels through the start of next week.TODAY – Impact Day: Spotty showers with PM storms north. Breezy and warm.
