An Erie man who had faced attempted homicide and other charges in a May 10 stabbing<\/a> in the city was sentenced to probation April 13 after pleading guilty in February to lesser charges in the case.<\/p>\n

Erie County President Judge John J. Mead sentenced Jahleel T. Gavin, 26, to three days to 23 months in prison, with time served, followed by a year of probation on Gavin’s guilty pleas to misdemeanor counts of simple assault and possessing an instrument of crime in the reported stabbing. Erie police had initially charged Gavin with other offenses including attempted homicide and felony aggravated assault.<\/p>\n

Gavin apologized for his actions at the sentencing hearing. Assistant District Attorney Hunter Lee noted at the hearing that the victim in the case did not want to be involved.<\/p>\n

Erie police had accused Gavin of stabbing the victim multiple times during an altercation in the 400 block of East 13th Street.<\/p>\n
