Some of them lost hundreds of dollars, according to a press release from UGI.

UGI believes these customers are searching for UGI’s phone number online but instead find fake ads and websites that contain fraudulent phone numbers. Once the customer calls the fake number, the scammers pretend to be UGI, get the customer’s information, and convince them to make unnecessary payments.

Officials say the best way to prevent these scams is to always make sure you call the only UGI phone number you will ever need: 800-276-2722. Customers should use this number for all billing and account-related questions, service requests, or to report a natural gas or electric emergency.

UGI also urges all customers to protect their accounts by adding a password. That extra protection can help keep scammers from accessing important account information that they are using to pull off these scams.

“UGI makes sure our legitimate phone number is visible on our website and on social media. We want customers to be vigilant against these online scam ads and websites that contain phone numbers,” says Dan Adamo, UGI Vice President of Customer Relations. “There is only one number to call to reach UGI and it is 800-276-2722.”

UGI Utilities, Inc. is again seeing an increase in scams tricking customers into making payments they shouldn’t make.…

[6
74826,74825,74824,74827,74823,20374,28,30,29,663,4077,43433
0":"post-165981","1":"post","2":"type-post","3":"status-publish","4":"format-standard","5":"has-post-thumbnail","7":"category-pennsylvania","8":"tag-account-security","9":"tag-billing","10":"tag-customer-protection","11":"tag-electric-emergency","12":"tag-fraudulent-phone-number","13":"tag-natural-gas","14":"tag-pennsylvania","15":"tag-pennsylvania-headlines","16":"tag-pennsylvania-news","17":"tag-scam","18":"tag-ugi-utilities","19":"tag-utility-scam
["GET
