(FOX Carolina) &#8211; Gaffney City Council approved the first reading of an ordinance to annex more than 500 acres for a proposed development.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">The ordinance is to annex 566 acres off Northgate Road, just north of downtown Gaffney. The measure passed with a four to three vote.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">Developers said the proposed project involves 1,500 single-family homes. It would be an age-restricted community for people 55 and older.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">The proposed annexation was previously <a href=\"https:\/\/www.foxcarolina.com\/2026\/02\/11\/do-it-right-residents-speak-out-gaffney-council-rejects-large-annexation-proposal\/\" target=\"_self\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.foxcarolina.com\/2026\/02\/11\/do-it-right-residents-speak-out-gaffney-council-rejects-large-annexation-proposal\/\">denied<\/a> in February, following public comment from residents who say the project moved too fast and would have put a strain on city resources.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">The ordinance still has to go through two more readings before it is fully approved.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text | text-start article-text\">Feel more informed, prepared, and connected with FOX Carolina.
