{"id":166132,"date":"2026-04-15T04:47:08","date_gmt":"2026-04-15T04:47:08","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-pa\/166132\/"},"modified":"2026-04-15T04:47:08","modified_gmt":"2026-04-15T04:47:08","slug":"malala-yousafzai-honored-in-philly-with-whyy-award","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-pa\/166132\/","title":{"rendered":"Malala Yousafzai honored in Philly with WHYY award"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Tuesday night\u2019s conversation also touched on \u201cFinding My Way,\u201d Yousafzai\u2019s latest book, an account of growing beyond being labeled <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnn.com\/2013\/10\/11\/world\/gallery\/the-bravest-girl\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">\u201cthe bravest girl in the world.\u201d<\/a><\/p>\n<p>In her chat with Gross, Yousafzai opened up about staying true to her activist ideals and her cultural heritage while also navigating friendships, independence and love.<\/p>\n<p>Now 28, Yousafazai is married, something she said she had been adamantly opposed to all her life.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI hated marriage,\u201d she said. \u201cEven in college, I was telling my friends that I will never get married. I discouraged all of my friends from getting married.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI was the first one in my friend group to get married,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n<p>Yousafzai met her husband, Asser Malik, a Pakistani cricket team manager living in England, and bonded over their common love of sports. They were married in 2021.
