Barbara was born in Philadelphia, the only child to Evelyn and Fred Ehrmann. She grew up in the Frankfort section of the City and graduated from St. Basil High School in 1954. Following high school she took a job as a secretary at Smith Kline and French and quickly was promoted to the role of conference coordinator, not a typical path for women of the time. In 1960 she met her beloved Joe on a blind date and they married in 1961. Joe’s dream was to become a medical doctor, and Barbara was the force behind the scenes that allowed that dream to come true. She continued working at Smith Kline to put him through medical school while having a toddler and then welcoming her second child. In 1968 they moved to Wyomissing so Joe could start his residency and later his medical practice. There she raised three children and managed everything from the children’s schedules, remodeling projects , the family finances and everything in between. Barbara will be remembered for her faith, her love of books and family history, her unwavering devotion as a wife and mother, her humor and her incredible resilience. She was predeceased by her husband of 53 years, Dr. Joseph DeSanctis, and her son Paul J. DeSanctis. She is survived by her daughters, Joanne DeSanctis Kirk (David) of Chicago and Tricia Guiry (Tom) Sunset Beach North Carolina, her granddaughter Kathryn Kirk of Chicago and many in-laws, nieces, nephews and devoted friends and neighbors.

Private services are planned for later in April.

Barbara E.
