A Tunkhannock man faces a felony theft charge for his role in ramming a stolen box truck into a Blakely business in an attempt to steal an ATM, police said.<\/p>\n
Blakely police charged Logan Dante Edward Konen with theft, criminal conspiracy, receiving stolen property and criminal mischief and issued a warrant for his arrest.<\/p>\n
Konen, 20, conspired with Tanner Avery to plan the thefts, police said.<\/p>\n
Officers responded to Tobacco Land, 1333 Main St., Blakely, at 1:12 a.m. on Jan. 14 for the report of a vehicle that crashed into a building, police said.<\/p>\n
Police found an unoccupied box truck with front-end damage that was later determined to be stolen from Flowers Baking Co. in Hanover Twp.<\/p>\n
An outdoor ATM was pushed into Tobacco Land, damaging the front of the building, police said.<\/p>\n
The box truck struck the ATM at a high rate of speed, officers said. After viewing surveillance footage from the business, investigators determined the crash was intentional.<\/p>\n
Konen was seen exiting the box truck wearing a gray sweatsuit and a blue shirt, covering his face and head, police said.<\/p>\n
A silver Lincoln Navigator driven by Avery, and later determined to be owned by Kasandra Compton of Peckville, entered the parking lot and backed up to the ATM, according to the criminal complaint.<\/p>\n
When a vehicle approached the scene, Avery and Konen fled in the Lincoln.<\/p>\n
Compton reported the vehicle stolen, but initially told officers she could not provide them with information about possible suspects.<\/p>\n
She later admitted Avery called her to tell he was going to take the vehicle, even removing car seats from its back seat.<\/p>\n
Compton told officers she had not originally told them the truth because she feared Avery, who she said was on methamphetamine and had a history of violence.<\/p>\n
On Jan.14, state police found Compton\u2019s vehicle in flames at Noble Road and Mack Road in Brooklyn Twp. They described the vehicle as \u201cdestroyed.\u201d<\/p>\n
Avery was arrested Jan. 31 and charged with two counts of theft by unlawful taking and one count of criminal mischief.<\/p>\n
On Feb. 5, Detective Peter Petrucci conducted a forensic examination of Avery\u2019s cellphone and discovered he and Konen had spoken repeatedly during the course of the crimes.<\/p>\n
Petrucci also noted text messages between Avery and Konen several days after the box truck crashed into the ATM near Tobacco Land, indicating that Konen was in a lot of pain.<\/p>\n
He noted that Konen did not reference the source of the pain.<\/p>\n
Also on Feb. 5, officers were contacted by the manager of the restaurant where Konen worked. She said she was aware one of the suspects had been wearing a blue clothing item on his face through news reports, according to the complaint.<\/p>\n
She told officers Konen had been wearing the same clothing item over his face, which she thought was odd.<\/p>\n
Later, an employee said Konen was talking about being involved in the crime during his workday, police said.<\/p>\n
Officers called Konen, who agreed to come to the station and speak with officers, but he failed to show up.<\/p>\n
Avery remains at Lackawanna County Prison in lieu of $125,000 bail.
